HOW TO TREAT DARK UNDER-EYE CIRCLES

If you wake up every morning with puffy, dark circles under your eyes, you may reach for concealer and foundation to hide the signs of fatigue. But there are many gentle, natural ways to support healthier skin under and around the eyes. (No makeup required!)

1. GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

Still groggy after waking up every morning? The most effective way to get rid of under-eye circles is to get more rest. Aim for at least 8 hours each night, and allow yourself more time if needed.

It may be difficult to fall asleep early at first, but after a few nights, your body will likely adjust its natural rhythm to allow you more Z’s. Wind down and prepare yourself for bed earlier, and you may find you get tired earlier, too.

If you can’t sleep, avoid the TV, your phone, and all electronics. Instead, reach for a good book and a cup of herbal tea. Rub lavender oil onto the bottoms of your feet to assist in the relaxation process.

2. EAT AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DIET

Vegetables, greens, and fruits, as well as spices like turmeric, have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. These and other plant-based foods fight free-radical damage, provide energy, and support your detoxification organs for a clear, refreshed complexion.

3. SOOTHE WITH CUCUMBER SLICES

Not just for the spa, cucumber slices placed over your eyelids for 10 minutes before bed can soothe inflammation and nourish tired eyes. Try this for a week and see the difference when you wake up!

4. CONSUME MORE LEMON, LESS SALT

Drinking a lukewarm glass of filtered water with half a lemon squeezed in is a refreshing way to start your morning. This combination gently cleanses the internal organs and wakes up the whole body—including the eyes. In addition, try easing up on the salt in your meals. A small pinch of sea salt to season your food will do.

 5. TRADE COFFEE FOR GREEN TEA

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and flush toxins out of your body. For a little pick-me-up, opt for green tea over coffee. Lightening up on the caffeine will help you get a better night’s sleep. After you steep your green tea, place warm tea bags over your eyes to reduce signs of fatigue.

At the end of the day, gently remove your eye makeup on as it can seep into your eyes and cause irritation.
